PROTEST PVRE GREEN COLLECTION

PROTEST is constantly striving for greener manufacturing and greener products for a greener planet! 🌍💚

PVRE GREEN is PROTEST's path to sustainability and they are taking it step by step.

"The waves and the mountains are our magical playground, and we have a responsibility to you and our world."

PROTEST is a strong advocate for innovative and more eco-friendly textiles, such as fabrics made from bamboo or recycled PET, and continuously strives for an environmentally friendly and ethical value chain. With their PVRE series - functional sportswear made from innovative and sustainable fabrics - PROTEST aims to set new standards and leave a smaller ecological footprint.

PVRE GREEN MATERIALS

For swimwear, outer fabric, lining and fleece sweaters.
Polyester is an important component of swimwear and ski and snowboard clothing because it is durable, flexible and water-resistant. Problematically, however, it makes for overflowing landfills and pollutes the environment. To reduce this problem, PROTEST uses recycled polyester - fabric made from old PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles - instead of new polyester.

Swimwear wouldn't be the same without elastane, because elastane not only ensures that the fabric is stretchy, but also that the fabric "recovers" - or rather, that the bikinis and swimsuits return to their original shape after use. Elastane is a complex synthetic fiber that, like polyester, takes 200 years to completely degrade. That's why PROTEST uses recycled elastane for the "bounce-back" effect.

For Surfable Shorts.
Bamboo is not only the favorite food of pandas, but also the basis for sustainable fabric. Botanically, bamboo is a type of grass that grows extremely fast, requires less water than other plants, is extremely robust and does not need to be protected by pesticides or insecticides. Due to its distinctive root system and enormous growth, bamboo is also able to filter more CO2 from the air than any other plant. The result - an extremely breathable, stretchable and UV-resistant fabric.

For T-shirts and tank tops.
Cotton fibers are one of the most important raw materials for textiles. As natural fibers, they are indeed more sustainable than synthetic fibers, because cotton is a renewable resource and biodegradable. However, the production process often has a massive impact on the environment and the people involved in the production process. That's why PROTEST makes sure that the cotton they use meets certain standards. For example, PROTEST now uses BCI cotton. BCI stands for Better Cotton Initiative and is a non-profit organization that ensures better standards in cotton cultivation through soil protection, water conservation and fair working conditions.

To get one step closer to the goal of sustainability, PROTEST has partnered with REPREVE®, the world's leading brand for the refinement of used plastic (such as plastic bottles) into a high-quality and sustainable functional fabric. Recycling polyester gives this non-biodegradable material a second life, keeping it out of landfills or the ocean. Compared to the production of virgin polyester, the use of recycled polyester requires 59% less energy and results in fewer carbon emissions. This is an important contribution to protecting the environment and reducing PROTEST's ecological footprint.

Unlike many other synthetic fibers, Tencel is made from sustainably grown eucalyptus wood and the manufacturing process is particularly resource-efficient and environmentally friendly due to a closed-loop system. The fabric is very soft, smooth, super breathable, is made from renewable resources and is biodegradable.

Burnt bamboo - sounds crazy, but it's true! By breaking down bamboo charcoal into tiny particles and combining it with polyester, the result is a fabric that is breathable, UV resistant, comfortable, stretchy and sustainable, making it ideal for sportswear and outdoor activities. Bamboo is a fast-growing type of grass that requires less water than other crops and does not need to be protected with pesticides or insecticides. With its distinctive root system and rapid growth, bamboo can also filter more CO2 from the air than other plants.

PROTEST has set itself the goal of doing without the chemical PFC in its clothing by the end of 2023 and replacing it with an environmentally friendly alternative. Among other things, PFCs are used to make clothing waterproof and oil- and dirt-repellent. However, PFCs can already enter the environment during their manufacture - or during the production of products containing PFCs - and are increasingly spreading through our food chain. After some research, PROTEST has found a replacement that also offers water resistance and breathability. The new water repellent coating is inspired by natural water resistance and is based on a fluorine-free formula.
